anyone have any recommendation on one?  My parents had a GE... it lasted for 15 years and is on it's way out.  I am going to buy them another but was wondering if anyone know anything about them.

When it came time for my wife and I to pick one for our kitchen, we went with Kitchenaid. It really depends on what look you're going for. We had all Stainless appliances so we wanted to go with some the nice styling that Kitchenaid had to offer. Now if we had money out the wazoo and more space, the one I REALLY wanted was a Sub-Zero. Of the more economical choices, we really like the Kenmore line as well.

I was looking at a Whirlpool side-by-side when I bought my house.  It was ranked as the best by Consumer Reports for mid-line s-b-s refrigerators.

Then I walked to Sears and found the exact same refrigerator with a Kenmore badge on it.   Turns out Whirlpool makes some of the Kenmore refrigerators.   Can't remember who makes the rest.

Anyway, if I had to do it again, I'd go with an upside-down refrigerator.  Top is refrig, bottom is freezer.    The side-by-side just doesn't offer enough freezer room.

I think Samsung or LG makes the refridgerator with the LCD screen built into it. Smiley We ended up going with a Whirlpool Gold series. Chose it mainly due to space and also the configurable main and side shelving.

Actually, that's exactly what we bought at Sears... only the Kenmore model.   It was about $300 cheaper.... but had the same model number except for the leading digits.

Strange.

We aren't looking for anything fancy... we just one tha tmakes Ice and curshes it. Smiley  The one they had is a GE and it's been working for 15 years.  It actually still works 80% of the time.  The problem is that the freezer will defrost itself every couple of nights for 4 hours...  It's really annoying.

a friend of mine lives with his relatives, and they have the kind of fridge that sucks the air out when you close it; if you want to open it again right after you close it the first time, you have to wait like 5, 10 seconds.  those are pretty cool, literally... Cool

Then I absolved to Sears and begin the exact aforementioned refrigerator with a Kenmore brand on it. Turns out Whirlpool makes some of the Kenmore refrigerators.
